TAV Georgia, the operator of Tbilisi and Batumi International Airports, continues to invest in the modernization of infrastructure at both international gateways. In 2025, several development projects are scheduled for Batumi International Airport, with some initiatives already underway and others set to begin in the near future.
For infrastructure upgrades at Batumi International Airport alone—including the enhancement of IT systems and procurement of operational equipment—TAV Georgia has allocated an investment of 12.5 million GEL for the year 2025.
According to Aluda Tsabauri, Technical Manager at TAV Georgia, “We have several projects planned at Batumi International Airport, both on the airside and within the terminal. Given the rising passenger traffic, it is essential that our infrastructure meets all associated demands in order to maintain the high service standards our travelers have come to expect over the years.”
As part of the first major project, by autumn 2025, the passenger reception area at the airport will be expanded. A new building will be constructed and integrated with the existing reception zone, also providing new office space to support airport operations and commercial functions.
Additionally, to streamline passenger flow and increase efficiency, the passport control area in the arrivals zone will be expanded. On the landside, a new terminal space will be added where a previously semi-covered area existed.
Significant upgrades are also planned for the airside infrastructure in 2025. The aircraft parking area will be enlarged by 8,200 square meters, and rehabilitation works will be carried out on 14,000 square meters of damaged paved surfaces.
This expansion will allow the apron to accommodate up to nine medium-sized aircraft (ICAO Code C) and one helicopter simultaneously. The airport’s runway is also scheduled for rehabilitation, involving major resurfacing in critical zones across a 45,000 square meter area.
The need for these infrastructure enhancements stems from a substantial increase in passenger traffic. The growth is particularly evident when compared to both the same period in the previous year and pre-pandemic levels, underscoring the urgency of expanding capacity and optimizing airport facilities.
