According to Levan Moseshvili, Director General of United Airports of Georgia, the development of Kutaisi International Airport has brought Kutaisi and the Imereti region closer to the rest of the world. He said the airport also plays an important role in the region’s tourism and economic development.
Moseshvili made the statement at an event dedicated to the 14th anniversary of Kutaisi International Airport. The event also marked the 10th anniversary of Wizz Air’s Kutaisi base.
Kutaisi Airport destinations: 32 routes
According to Moseshvili, the development of Kutaisi Airport is not limited to aviation. He described it as part of the wider development of Imereti.
“An airport is not only infrastructure. It is a space that connects people. Every passenger is a specific story,” Moseshvili said.
According to him, the development of the airport also contributes to the development of Kutaisi and the Imereti region.
An international visitor’s journey does not end at the airport. Travelers continue to Kutaisi and other municipalities across Imereti.

Wizz Air operated its first flight from Kutaisi 14 years ago. In 2016, the airline opened its base at the airport.
According to Levan Moseshvili, the opening of the base created new opportunities for Kutaisi and the wider region.
“This was no longer simply about adding new air routes. It marked a new stage of development for both the airport and the region as a whole,” Moseshvili said.
The opening of the base allowed the airline to operate from Kutaisi on a permanent basis.
This was followed by new routes and increased flight frequencies. It also created additional employment opportunities.
Wizz Air’s Kutaisi base started with one based aircraft. Today, the base has grown to four based aircraft.
“The history that started with one based aircraft has now reached four based aircraft,” Moseshvili said.
According to him, Wizz Air’s Kutaisi base has become one of the important pillars supporting the airport’s growth.
