Narikala

Narikala is the historical citadel of Tbilisi, the main fortress. In Georgian sources it is called the Mother Fortress'. The termNarikala’ is of Persian origin and the fortress was named in the 17th century. Narikala shows traces of numerous reconstructions from the 4th to the 18th centuries. The last restoration of Narikala was carried out in 2000. The St. Nicholas Cathedral and the fortress wall were restored. The Narikala Fortress offers beautiful views of Old and New Tbilisi.
