Maia Omiadze, the Head of the Georgian National Tourism Administration, on Wednesday highlighted a “record-setting” figure of 5.1 million tourist visits recorded to the country last year, saying the number represented the “highest number in the country’s history”.
The figure was largely driven by visitors from European Union countries, the United Kingdom, Persian Gulf states, India, China, the United States, and Israel.
The 2024 travel season is over and Georgia has very good data. We welcomed a record 5.1 million tourist visits, the highest number in the country’s history”, Omiadze said during a press briefing earlier today.
As we move into 2025, we are committed to maintaining this positive momentum. The season of international exhibitions is upon us, and we plan to collaborate closely with private companies to showcase our offerings. We aim to foster business relationships with international partners and launch targeted marketing campaigns across European countries and key markets”, she added.
The Administration said the country hosted 5,091,732 international tourists – a nine percent increase compared to 2023 and 0.2 percent gain compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
Last year, Georgia also welcomed 7,368,149 international travellers of all types, reflecting a 4.2 percent increase from the previous year, and showing a recovery of 78.7 percent of 2019 figures.
